What Is Climbing Chalk Made Of?
Rock climbing chalk is a specialized powder used by climbers to improve grip and reduce sweat on the hands. It’s primarily made from pure magnesium carbonate (MgCO₃), a natural mineral that absorbs moisture and enhances friction. When applied to the hands, climbing chalk helps maintain a dry and secure grip on rocks, holds, and climbing gear, making it an essential tool for climbers of all levels.
So What Is Magnesium Carbonate?
Magnesium carbonate is a white, odorless mineral that naturally occurs in the environment and is commonly used in rock climbing chalk. At Direct Dust, we use only pure magnesium carbonate in our chalk, ensuring the highest quality and performance. This pure form of chalk offers excellent moisture absorption, keeping your hands dry for a better, more controlled climb. Whether you’re bouldering, sport climbing, or tackling tough routes, our chalk helps you perform at your peak by providing a solid grip and reducing the risk of slipping.
